About this fitting
What it is for
A dome pendant is the most straightforward way to light a specific surface. The shade contains the light and pushes it downward, so a table or a run of counter is lit without the whole room being washed out.
Hang height does most of the work. Over a dining table, the bottom of the shade usually wants to sit somewhere around 75–85 cm above the surface — high enough to see across, low enough to keep the light where you want it. The cord shortens at the rose, so this is set when the fitting goes up.
Installation involves mains wiring. Unless you are qualified and the rules where you live allow it, this is a job for an electrician.
